John A. Major is Senior Vice President of Guy Carpenter & Company, Inc. His responsibilities include the development of new risk transfer products and actuarial/risk management research. In particular, he was responsible for the technical development behind the Guy Carpenter Catastrophe Index, which received the 1997 Innovation of the Year Award from The Review Worldwide Reinsurance and 1997 Top Insurance Product of the Year Award from Risk & Insurance Magazine.
Prior to joining Guy Carpenter, John was a Teaching Fellow at Harvard University, Assistant Director of Research at the Travelers Insurance Company, and Principal of his own research consulting firm. He received a B.S. in mathematics from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and an M.A. in mathematics from Harvard University. He is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries and member of the Board of Contributors of Financing Risk & Reinsurance.
